Tresata is partnering with Harris Teeter and Data Chambers to host the fourth annual Hackathon CLT on March 18 and 19, 2016 at The PORTAL on UNC-Charlotte’s main campus. The team-based competition invites area tech developers, designers, analysts and others to showcase their skills in a fast-paced overnight hackathon which aims to solve a business problem using big data and mobile technology.
Hackathon CLT MMXVI kicks off Friday, March 18, with the city’s biggest developer party celebrating Charlotte’s tech community and runs through the night culminating in a final pitch for cash prizes on Saturday afternoon. Participants can compete in three categories- HACK, CODE and FREESTYLE with a $5,000, $2,000 and $1,000 prize up for each, respectively. Non-hackers can even participate in the FREESTYLE category, which evaluates a presentation of a solid vision, business model and plan for an alternative solution. The event’s kickoff party and judging round are open to the public.
“We are thrilled to invite Charlotte’s talented pool of technology professionals back for a fourth year,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “Hackathon CLT provides a forum through which the tech community can collaborate to spark creative ideas and solutions – allowing our company to meet technology experts and encourage the growth of eBusiness within our city.”
Harris Teeter and Tresata founded the country’s first-ever Big Data Hackathon in 2013 as a way to spark ongoing conversations and opportunities in Charlotte’s growing technology scene. This year, Cabot Cheddar, Kforce, CTS and University City Partners have joined Harris Teeter and Tresata, as well as Data Chambers, P&G, and MillerCoors, to make Hackathon an even bigger success than the previous three years.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Harris Teeter’s long-time community partner in eliminating hunger throughout the local community, is also joining the event this year as the data sponsor.
“We had one goal when we dreamt up HackathonCLT – establish Charlotte’s street cred as a technology powerhouse,” said Abhishek Mehta, CEO of Tresata. “In its fourth year and with more than 500 participants, I am excited to see that dream turn into reality”.
Tickets are free for spectators and participants and are available at www.hackathonCLT.org.
