Charlotte, NC, February 28—Leading AI software company Tresata is thrilled to announce Abbott Labs, EY, AT&T, Kroger Tech, RapidOps, Beacon Partners, and Discovery Place Science as sponsors for its this year’s 7th annual civic-tech hackathon, hackathonCLT MMXIX.

Since its founding in 2013, hackathonCLT has attracted over 5,000 participants, awarded more than $200,000 in prizes, and supported 4+ local nonprofit organizations by connecting local techies to related social issues – focusing their minds and skills for 24-hours on “hacking” solutions to improve life for the city and its inhabitants.

This year’s event will invite the hacker community to use big data to identify and build solutions centered on Mecklenburg County’s most acute challenges related to Population Health. Participants will be asked to focus on one of the top 5 issues in the Charlotte area, including:

  1. Access to Care
  2. Mental Health and Suicide
  3. Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
  4. Violence Prevention
  5. Communicable Diseases and Sexually Transmitted Infections

The team-based competition offers developers, designers, innovators, technology enthusiasts, and those with brilliant ideas an opportunity to compete through three distinct approaches, or categories, HACK, CODE, and freeSTYLE, listed in order of difficulty. For hackathonCLT MMXIX, cash and in-kind prizes for the winners will exceed $40,000, making this the largest cash prize purse in hackathon history. Additional prizes and gifts shall be announced at the event opening.

Abbott Labs, RapidOps, Discovery Place Science, Beacon Partners, the City of Charlotte return as sponsors, with EY, Kroger Tech, and AT&T joining them for the first time this year. The event is also supported by NorthState, Marcus Kiser, and QuinGwinn Studio.

hackathonCLT will be held at Discovery Place Science in Uptown Charlotte March 22 through March 23. Final presentations and awards will be open to the public in the Discovery Place Theatre, starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
